Released 2007. Written by Kelly Masterson and Directed by Sidney Lumet. Stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei, and Albert Finney.
The dark tone is reminiscent of a Darren Aronofsky film (e.g. “Requiem for a Dream”) and the structure is reminiscent of “Memento.” Overall, it’s an intriguing family heist film with a wonderful cast. You can never go wrong with Philip Seymour Hoffman.
And a side note/observation: I’ve never been completely caught off guard with an opening scene as I was with this film.
