ONE PIECE (chapter 567) Marine Headquarters, Marineford - Oris Ground

The pirates rush through the plaza, attacking the Marines they can while avoiding cannon fire. Whitebeard readies another attack, but is frozen by Aokiji. He breaks out of the ice using his quake powers and stabs Aokiji, who phases through it with his ice powers, not hurt from a “willpower” imbued weapon. But Jaws (Jozu in past writings; going to stick with this version for now) is able to attack him, preventing a counter-attack. As Aokiji prepares to face Jaws, Luffy makes his way to the platform. But he’s stopped by Momonga and another Vice-Admiral, who use a combination of Rokushiki attacks to stop Luffy. To make the situation even bleaker, Kizaru shoots Luffy with a beam and kicks him away. He’s caught by Whitebeard, who tells his doctors to help heal him and force him to rest for now. Ivankov and Jimbei head over to Luffy’s side. Whitebeard comments that Luffy’s youth and recklessness caused his defeat for now. But he’s impressed still by his spirit. Akainu meets Whitebeard head on. Jimbei decides that this is a good place to sacrifice his life to save Whitebeard if need be. We then see glimpses of other pirates and Marines battling, along with panels of some of the Warlords. Marco decides to head to platform using his fruit powers, but he’s stopped short by Garp, who finally decides to fight. He seats himself at the front of the execution platform, and declares to all the pirates that if they want to get to Ace, they’ll have to kill him first.

So sadly, Marco versus Aokiji didn’t happen at all. I was looking forward to it last week, too. That’s pretty much the only downfall of this chapter. Oh, and that it ended as well. Hilarious colorspread at the beginning, too. Pacing is still top notch right now, sucking me in as I read. Unfortunately, it looks like it’ll be a while before we get to see Sengoku properly fight. I had a discussion with one of my friends on what his abilities could be, and if they can somehow relate to his nickname “Buddha.” If you have any theories, feel free to post them in the comments. With Luffy out of the picture for a while, I’m not expecting him to do anything noteworthy in the next few chapters, but with the manga author, all bets are off on the chapter predictions. Good chapter.

NARUTO (chapter 475) Madara’s True Strength

Fu and Torune try to keep Madara busy as Danzo undoes his arm seal. Fu tries to use his soul swap technique, but Madara phases through a pillar. As he reappears, Fu attacks with his sword, but he phases through it and manages to counter-attack. Torune throws a kunai right before the counter-attack connects, causing Madara to focus on phasing through it rather than attacking Torune. They manage to figure out that Madara has to become solid again to attack, so their best chance is for a counter-attack. Fu tells Torune that he’ll be bait, since he’s already shown his abilities. They go for it, but Madara only pretends to attack, causing Torune’s counter to actually hit Fu. Torune’s ability is to control micro-sized, poisonous insects that infect the body like a virus. Torune removes his shirt and covers himself with the insects to infect Madara, but he reappears behind him and absorbs him with his Sharingan. However, before being absorbed, Torune manages to infect Madara’s right arm. He severs it, and throws it at Fu, using that as a feint attack to get close to absorb him as well. Back at the town, Gaara and the sand ninjas prepare to leave to get their village ready for the upcoming war. Gaara tells Naruto that he hopes that he’ll do what he feels is right when he faces Sasuke in the future. Meanwhile, within the pocket universe Madara controls, he meets up with Sasuke and Karin and brings them out. Now it’s Danzo versus Sasuke. Danzo removes the seal just in time to reveal his arm covered in Sharingan eyes. He tells Sasuke that he’s taking his next.

Torune and Fu facing Madara was actually pretty good. Of course we all know that they wouldn’t defeat him, but they did their job by keeping him away from Danzo for the time being. Torune’s abilities are pretty cool, and being from the same family as Shino doesn’t hurt his credibility either. While that was good, Danzo’s arm reveal wasn’t that great. It reminded me of something from Samurai Deeper Kyo, where that one guy has a bunch of fake Medusa Eyes on his arm. Lackluster ending, but still a pretty good one this week. Good chapter.

BLEACH (chapter 385) Vice It

Komamura and Tousen square off, with Komamura trying to use his bankai. Meanwhile, Aizen begins unsheathing his sword against Shinji. However, since Aizen and Shinji never really got along or talked, he doesn’t know much about Shinji’s abilities either. Shinji reveals that just like Aizen, his sword can also control other people’s senses. For their battle, Tousen is able to get the upper hand. It turns out that any injuries to Komamura’s bankai reflect onto himself. Komamura’s bankai is able to attack Tousen, though, taking out his left arm. But his regenerative abilities are much greater now that he’s in hollow form, and it heals rapidly. Komamura expresses disappointment in Tousen in how he turned his back on them for power. But he counters by saying that he originally joined Soul Society for revenge, to kill the murderer of his friend. The increase in emotion causes a mouth to finally formed on Tousen’s nearly blank mask. Their arguments continue further, with Komamura preparing himself to face and kill Tousen. Tousen mocks his preparedness, and begins to activate his Resureccion. As he covers himself in darkness, what will Tousen’s new powers unveil?

Nothing really happened, but we did get a few tidbits of info. Shinji’s sword powers are apparentliy similar to Aizen’s. However, that’s just to give him a fighting chance until Ichigo arrives I guess. And Komamura’s bankai is apparently linked to himself. That can’t be good against a strong opponent. Unfortunately, the lack of progress and extremely slow pacing are still grating on me. Disappointing chapter.

HAJIME NO IPPO (chapter 876) One in a Million

As Woli lands, Ippo tries to land an uppercut, but it’s barely blocked. The blow is enough to make Woli stumble as he lands, and Ippo uses this opportunity to put on the pressure. He forces him into the ropes. Ippo once again tries to force him into the corner, but everyone is expecting Woli to jump yet hold his position. However, Ippo loses his footing as the throws the punch, and Woli unexpectedly finds himself in the corner! Ippo finally has him where he wants in, and goes in for the attack. But though Woli is trapped, he’s able to dodge Ippo’s flurry, throw a counter punch, and escape the corner! Ippo barely holds himself up, with his eyes glossed over, both stunned and head shocked. Kamogawa remembers what Dankichi told him from Vorg’s spar with Woli. With their corner strategy failed, what can Ippo do now?

With Ippo in a lot of trouble, I’m having a tough time trying to figure out how he’ll be able to defeat Woli. First, there’s the fact that he has great speed and reflexes. Then, there’s all these tricks he has, which I’m sure we haven’t seen all of yet. Finally, Ippo looks completely broken down. None of his strategies have worked. All his momentum is gone. I know Ippo won’t give up, but I can’t think of any believable way of a comeback. But that’s what makes me read this series. Good chapter.

FAIRY TAIL (chapter 163)The Scarlet Sky

As Gerard is being arrested, Wendy tells Lahr that Gerard lost his memories but that he’s a good person. Unfortunately, she says that his amnesia won’t pardon his past crimes. Gerard apologizes to Wendy for not remembering her, but after Charle tells him that he saved her, he is grateful to meet her again and that he was able to at least save one person in his past. Erza is struggling to keep her emotions in check, because she desperately wants to save Gerard from being taken away. When she musters just enough courage to try to save him, Natsu erupts with rage and declares that Gerard isn’t going anywhere. He attacks the guards, saying that Gerard is one of them and that he’s returning with them. His feelings are felt by the the rest of the group as they try to fend off the guards and rescue Gerard. Lahr commands all the guards to arrest them, and just before they converge on our heroes, Erza commands everyone to stop. Still standing on the sidelines, Erza says she’ll claim full responsibility for her group’s actions and to take Gerard away. Resolved to take his punishment, Gerard complies with Lahr and is taken away. Before leaving though, he finally remembers something of his past, Erza’s hair color. Gerard is finally taken away. In the aftermath, Erza seperates herself from her group, needing time alone. She remembers when she first met Gerard and Wally Buchanan when they were still kids, and how she didn’t have a last name. Gerard decides that her last name should be Scarlet, like her hair color. This way, he’ll never forget her name. Remembering that causes her to break down into tears.

Sad but expected ending to this arc. It was actually pretty good, too. With one of the top dark guilds now defeated, we’ll see what kind of effect it has on the world, along with what their next mission will be. Though Gerard is taken away, I’m sure it’s not the last we’ll see of him. Whether it’s Mistgun’s explanation why he looks like him or his own return, Gerard will be back some day. It was a touching ending. Poor Erza. Something else I forgot to think about til now, will Lucy gain control of Angel’s Stellar Spirits now? Or is it just Gemini only, since they consciously found and helped her. Anyway, looking forward to the next storyline. Decent chapter.

HISTORY’S STRONGEST DISCIPLE KENICHI (chapter 364)True Masters

Kagerou somehow holds his own against the armor guy, but his wooden weapon won’t last that long. Somehow, he’s able to parry his opponent’s axe strikes while at the same time sharpening it to a point. He stabs the armor guy at the underarm joint, but it’s reinforced, breaking the wooden sword. Kagerou frantically looks for a replacement weapon, even trying to break off the railing for a fence. Kenichi tries to throw the Akabanetou to him, but it’s intercepted by the armor guy who also connects his axe with Kenichi’s torso! Ryouzanpaku members panic as Kenichi takes the hit; even Chikage is worried, but struggles to hide it when her master looks her way. Luckily, he was wearing some reinforcements beneath is gi, which partly saved his life. He was saved mostly because Kagerou was able to partially deflect the axe with the Akabanetou. He managed to switch it from the armor guy’s hand with the broken fence rail he was trying to get earlier. Kushinada tells Chikage to watch Kagerou and Shigure closely, as they are about to use a true weapon master technique. Their attacks defeat their respective opponents, with Shigure’s pretty much shredding her opponent’s clothing. Sakaki also defeats his opponent by breaking his weapon. With the armed division defeated, Kushinada finally steps forward.

With the enemies defeated, you’d think it’d be over? But now that the weapon users are down, it looks like Kushinada is going to step in. Whether or not she’ll fight or just take the Akabanetou is another story. If anything, I’m betting she’ll fight Sakaki, with neither side winning or losing. We’ll probably get the wrap up for Hayato’s match as well. Decent chapter.

ONE PIECE (chapter 566) Fierce Attack!

The admirals are unphased by Luffy’s attacks. He uses Gear Second to try to pass them with his speed, but Kizaru cuts him off, saying he’s too slow. Sengoku tells the executioners that it’s time to kill Ace, but they’re stopped by Crocodile. Sengoku thought that he would be after Whitebeard instead due to his grudge, but because he thinks that Whitebeard has grown weaker, Crocodile will kill him later and instead would rather not let the Marines have their way. Doflamingo cuts off Crocodile’s head, and the two continue their fighting. Aokiji attacks Luffy with his ice sabre, which angers Hancock. Before she interferes, Marco charges in and attacks Aokiji. Meanwhile, the other pirates are swimming towards the only opening of the siege wall. Before the Marines are able to reload their cannons and attack them, another of Whitebeard’s ships emerges from the water, a similar to the Moby Dick. The pirates board the ship quickly and hold on, as Oars Jr. carries the ship through the opening onto the land. The pirates have now breached the wall and are within the plaza. Oars Jr. takes some more heavy cannon fire. Furious, Whitebeard imbues his weapon with his quake powers and takes out numerous Marines with one attack. He orders his men to charge the execution platform. At the same time, Sengoku and Garp get ready to join the fight.

Finally, something I’ve been waiting to happen for a long time will hopefully happen in the next chapter. I’m eagerly looking forward to what Sengoku’s abilities are. You can’t be the head of all the Marines without being somewhat powerful. Even Whitebeard acknowledged Sengoku’s strength and experience. Other noteworthy items. Marco against Aokiji. Fire versus Ice, although, a different fire user. Hopefully they’ll be able to finish their fighting, unlike Smoker versus Hancock, Jimbei versus Moria, and Ivankov versus Kuma. Also, finally Doflamingo and Crocodile properly face each other. Lots of setup this week. Hopefully the matchups will follow through next chapter. Good chapter.

NARUTO (chapter 474) Hokage’s Resolution

Sai tells Naruto how Konoha has decided to treat Sasuke like the criminal he’s become, and that his peers are the ones who have decided to take it upon themselves to do it. Naruto is surprised and furious, saying that Sakura would never follow those orders because of her feelings. Sai says that she wanted to tell Naruto herself, and by confessing her feelings to him, she hoped to soften the blow. But because Naruto still wants to save Sasuke, she couldn’t. They question what Sakura is planning now, but Kakashi guesses that she’s going to kill Sasuke herself. Naruto is in disbelief, but Sai says that it’s because she cares for him that she can’t stand to see what he’s become. So she’s willing to kill the one she loves to stop him. Before they can decide what to do, Gaara, Temari, and Kankuro arrive to meet with Kakashi. Meanwhile, Danzo and his group are confronted by Madara. The others inform the Konoha ninjas what happened at the Kage meeting, and that they’d like Kakashi to take over the title of Hokage. Before they head back, Gaara tries to console Naruto along with trying to re-ignite his desire to become a future Hokage. And one who will become a Kage, he tells Naruto that he should do what he must as Sasuke’s friend. Meanwhile, Danzo drives back Madara and tells Fu and Torune to cover him while he removes the seal on his right arm.

Complete opposite of last week. Interesting chapter ending doesn’t do much to lift up the rest of the chapter. Sai having to fill in to Naruto what we readers already know just seems like filler. Gaara’s pep talk was kind of weak, but I wasn’t really expecting much from someone who was first introduced as a blood-thirsty killer child. Strange to see Naruto getting the pep talk for once, but I dont’ know if I’d really call that a positive character growth. Here’s hoping that next chapter follows through with Madara versus Danzo. To think that these two would actually face each other now, when just a few months back, fans speculated that they were the same person. Decent chapter.

BLEACH (chapter 384) Can’t Fear Your Own Sword

Tousen activates his own Hollow form, a much plainer mask compared to Ichigo’s and the Vizards. Hisagi questions why his former captain did this to himself, but Tousen slashes him in an instant. Komamura tries to get an attack in, but he’s blocked and kicked away. He questions Komamura why they accept Ichigo’s hollowfication but despise him because of it. It’s because Tousen already had enough strength as a captain and chose to go down this path, while Ichigo didn’t choose it for himself. Suddenly, Hisagi grabs Tousen with his chain, saying he was able to barely dodge the fatal blow. With Tousen pinned, he remembers some of the teachings he taught him before he turned on Soul Society. Mainly, having fear in battle and fear for his own sword helps give you both the strength to fight and to protect. He asks his former what he fears now that he threw away his beliefs for power, but Tousen suddenly stabs him. He tells Hisagi that he was afraid of dying as a Shinigami like him. Komamura activates his bankai to face Tousen.

Pretty much what I expected from this chapter. Tousen changes, and pretty much has his way with Komamura and Hisagi. His hollowfication is pretty plain though. No cool, evil design at all. It looks like a fencing mask. It’s actually a little disappointing. Maybe the mask reflects Tousen’s kind of bland personality? No Ichigo this week, and no Aizen interaction either. Slow pacing, and no really intense fight scenes either. Disappointing chapter.

HAJIME NO IPPO (chapter 876)

No chapter available at the time of this writing.

FAIRY TAIL (chapter 162)I’m Here for You

Zero is defeated, and Nirvana is falling apart. Gerard is amazed at Natsu’s magic strength, but his calm expression changes to worry once Natsu collapses. The other members of the alliance try to escape. Wendy trips while trying to run, and before rubble falls on top of her, she is saved by a revived Jura. As Nirvana finally crumbles, everyone but Natsu and Gerard manages to make it out. Suddenly, Hoteye emerges from the ground with both of them in tow. Wendy is so glad that Natsu is safe and was able to save her guild that she gives him a big hug. As our heroes try to recover and gather themselves, Lucy and Gray are surprised to discover that it was Gerard who helped Natsu and Erza. With his memories now gone, Gerard is reluctant to recover them, knowing that he has done horrible things in the past, but Erza says that she’ll be there for him, even if they end up hating each other. Before things go any further, Ichiya runs into a strange barrier. Our heroes have fallen into a trap. Accompanied by a large number of armed forces, the new head of the Fourth Press Obligation Force of the New Council, Lahr, introduces himself to the group. He is there to apprehend the members of Oracion Seis, including the newly reformed Hoteye. His last request before being arrested was for them to find his brother, Wally Buchanan. Knowing and having recently met him again, Erza informs him that his brother is alive and well. Before they can undo the barrier magic, though, Lahr is also there to arrest Gerard for his past crimes. If he doesn’t surrender, they have permission to kill him.

Didn’t really expect the punishments to be doled out this quickly. Also, wasn’t expecting Hoteye’s brother to be someone we’ve already seen. I was assuming he’d be a person reserved for a future arc. Well, with one of the dark guilds finally defeated, I guess then it’s on to the next one, with probably a short break to recover wounds. I hope that there’ll be other guild members involved, because it’s always interesting to see new character designs and personalities from the author. And hopefully we’ll someday get an answer to where these faux-dragonslayers gain their powers from. Hopefully next week we’ll find out exactly what happens to Gerard and Hoteye, but we’ll probably be left in limbo until necessary. Pretty good arc. Decent chapter.

HISTORY’S STRONGEST DISCIPLE KENICHI (chapter 363)Local Battle

At other locations, Ryouzanpaku faces off against Yami’s armed division. Hayato was able to take out one opponent early, and now faces a short sword user. Akisame faces a rapier user. He dodges all of his thrust attacks, and is able to later negate its power and finish him off with a series of grabs and throws. Facing bow using women, the pervert in Ma Kensei is able to subdue them by tying them up in their own clothes. Apachai was able to make quick work of his enemies. Only two places remain where the others have yet to check in.

Pretty short chapter this week. Most of it was taken up by Akisame and Ma Kensei’s fights, which seemed pretty easy to them. With most of these guys being fodder characters, I’m not surprised that no names have actually popped up. Or if they did, I didn’t really bother to remember them. Poor Apachai not really getting any challenge. Oh, and boobies. Man, the artist has been throwing in some more brief glimpses these past few chapters. Decent chapter.

So Thanksgiving is this week.  Lots of food and lots of fun to be had by all.  Try not to get too stuff out there that you get a food coma.  Sorry about not getting this out over the weekend.  Busy getting costumes together for Anime Los Angeles.  I had two costumes to prepare, with another as a back-up in case the first one fell through, but now my cosplay group decided to change it up to a group thing while still maintaining the original theme.  What does that all mean?  Gotta start from scratch this weekend.  Which is also the start of holiday shopping.  Make sure not to hurt yourself and others when going for those sales on Black Friday.  Also, if you’re one of those people/families that spend their entire Thanksgiving Day camping out in front of a super-retail store just to be one of the first in line for a big ticket item, congratulations, you’re what’s wrong with America.  Not going to get any further into that, since this is about manga.  Perhaps that’ll be written concurrently this week.  Anways, enjoy!

ONE PIECE (chapter 564) The Man that Rocks the World

As Whitebeard makes his move, the rest of his allies remain at his side. Distraught at what he’s done, Squad is consoled by Marco and finds his resolve to continue to fight. The Marines start retreating to the plaza, to hold off Whitebeard and his army. Vice Admiral John Giant takes it upon himself to face Whitebeard and prevent him from advancing. Whitebeard blocks his attack and counters with a massive earthquake that tilts both the ice and the Marine Headquarters. After knocking John Giant down, Whitebeard delivers another blow, sending an earthquake to his chest. The quake continues, heading towards the execution platform, but the combined powers of the three admirals protect it and the town. As Luffy nearly reaches the plaza, the hidden steel siege walls are raised to give the Marines another added defense. The entire plaza is nearly blocked off, but Oars Jr.’s body is on top of one of the sections, not allowing it to raise up. However, even with just a small passage to pass, Whitebeard has some hope of reaching Ace. But just then, Akainu sends fists of magma raining down on the pirates, to break their icy foothold.

Normally, when One Piece comes back from break, the chapter is generally awesome. This week, not so much, but still good. Wasn’t expecting the siege wall back-up plan. Also, it was pretty cool seeing Whitebeard’s powers used in melee form. Earthquake to the chest has to hurt your internal organs. Surprised as well at Oars Jr.’s usefulness after his death. The big guy is certainly doing his part. Not much more of the actual war occurred, but now that all three admirals are back in the thick of things, I’m expecting next week to be pretty chaotic thanks to Akainu’s attack. Good chapter.

NARUTO (chapter 472) A Deadly Battle in an Underwater Prison

Fusing with his sword to become a true sharkman monster, Kisame charges to attack. Killer Bee tries to flee to get Sabu and Ponta to safety, but Bee is having a tough time escaping the water. Turns out that Kisame is moving the water with him, thus keeping Bee trapped no matter how hard he swims. The 8-Tails informs Bee, and then comes up with the plan to leave Sabu and Ponta to let Kisame chase after him instead. But Kisame goes after the others, luring Bee into a trap. Bee has a trump card though, having a partial transformation to bring out only a few tentacles while still maintaining his non-transformed state. He manages to grab Kisame and hold him as he pushes the others out of the water. However, just by touching Kisame’s body, Bee is still losing chakra. He spits out ink to try to flee the water prison, but Kisame can still detect and catch him. Finally tiring his prey out, Kisame releases the water technique and unfuses with his sword. To prevent any further mishaps, he plans to cut of Bee’s feet; but something goes wrong with his sword. It bends and punctures the ground to prevent Kisame from cutting, and it also sprouts blades on the handle, making Kisame drop it. The sword has taken a liking to Bee, and tries to protect him. It manages to give Bee a little bit of chakra, just before Kisame kicks it away. It’s enough for be to start crawling away, but Kisame grabs one of Bee’s blades and goes to finish him off.

As if last week’s chapter wasn’t weird enough, this one is even weirder. So the sword does have its own consciousness, and apparently, he’s taken a liking to Bee. I don’t see why not, as he’s one of the better introduced new characters since the time skip. Anyway, I was wondering how Kisame could be defeated, since he seemed nearly unbeatable. But then again, some of the previous Akatsuki seemed unbeatable as well. His losing the use of his sword definitely knocks his strength down a peg. Can’t wait for the conclusion. Good chapter.

BLEACH (chapter 383)

No chapter this week, as the author is taking a break to collect more data.

HAJIME NO IPPO (chapter 874) Impossible to Predict

Baffled at what’s going on, Ippo swings wildly at Woli who counters it easily. Woli continues to remain calm and collected, able to simply dodge Ippo. Charging forward, Woli jumps in the air to throw Ippo off. Ippo throws a punch, but somehow Woli dodges it in mid-air and connects with another punch. He uses the ropes to get around Ippo’s blind side, but he comes in at a low angle that Ippo is able to see. As he throws a punch, Woli is able to bend back at a super-low, limbo-like angle to dodge the attack and still throw a punch while that low. Being in complete control of the match, Woli continues to have his way with Ippo, and almost knocks him down. But instead, the ref calls Ippo’s fall a slip instead. Woli’s unexpected fighting style has thrown off Ippo, Kamogawa, and his other boxers as well, yet Takamura is able to tell that everything Woli is doing is within the rules of boxing. Just because it’s an unorthodox style doesn’t make it cheating. Getting back up, Ippo hears from Kamogawa to continue charging in and take the initiative.

Can someone actually box like that? I know it’s a manga and all, but I can’t help but wonder. Some of the angles of the punches seem practially impossible. But that’s what makes shonen manga entertaining. Wondering what Ippo will do to change the momentum of the fight? And will he be able to get his confidence back? Still a highly entertaining fight, but man, these chapters are going by at Bleach speeds sometimes, but definitely more entertaining. Good chapter.

FAIRY TAIL (chapter 160)The Power of Feelings

With the Dragon Force surrounding Natsu, he feels similar to the time he ate the Etherion when he faced Gerard. Intrigued by his opponent’s new strength, Zero eagerly faces Natsu. At the third lachryma chamber, Lucy barely manages to get there and reveals to Happy that she has no more magic left; however, she still wants to help protect Cait Shelter. Still moved by her feelings to Stellar Spirits, Gemini appears and takes on her form, to help her break the lachryma crystal in five minutes. Zero uses his Dark Gravity attack, which almost sends Natsu through the bottom of Nirvana. Zero follows suit using a dual Dark Capriccio as a feint, and closes in with an energy blast. Natsu still stands and still faces Zero head-on. Erza and Gray are in place, with three minutes left. Zero notices that Natsu doesn’t really have full control over his Dragon Force yet and begins to get the upper hand. Ichiyama arrives at his lachryma crystal target. Zero continues to kick Natsu while he’s down (literally). Wendy “eats” the air around her to increase her Sky Dragon power. Zero taunts Natsu, saying that he can’t defeat him alone. But Natsu responds by saying that he isn’t alone, that everyone else’s feelings and support are keeping him standing to face Zero. His power once again causes the Dragon Force to erupt from within. With Nirvana almost done recharging, Zero decides to use his strongest technique, Genesis Zero. Natsu charges head-on with one of his strongest Dragon Slayer techniques.

Looks like the arc is winding down. Just going to make a guess, but somehow Natsu is able to defeat Zero and destroy the crystal in the next chapter. Just saying. Predictability aside, the fight has been pretty entertaining. Both the pacing and the setup for what should be the conclusion were done really well. Looking forward to the finale. Decent chapter.

HISTORY’S STRONGEST DISCIPLE KENICHI (chapter 361)Setsunamaru and Akabanetou

Shigure is still preoccupied with the kukri wielder, and they’re nearly in a stalemate. After both use throwing weapons to no avail, their blades cross paths again. The kukri wielder recognizes that Shigure’s katana is made of superb quality, and that if she could find a kukri of similar make, she’ll make a kukri division for Yami. But, Shigure steps up her speed and is able to land a flurry of attacks that cuts away most of her opponent’s top and causes her to drop on kukri. She then tells her that until she can become one with her weapon, no matter the quality, she won’t defeat her. She also lets her pick up her fallen kukri. But just then, Sakaki and the armor guy crash through the wall. Kenichi looks on, not knowing what to do. It seems like a 4-on-1, but only the katana guy and armor guy are actually fighting. Kushinada asks how Kagerou likes his new sword. He uses it to destroy the fallen kukri with ease (boobies!), but he says that he can’t get along with the sword. He is about to hand the sword over to the katana user until he spots Shigure, who greets him as well. He rushes to her, Akabanetou in hand, and asks her about his sword Setsunamaru. She said she destroyed it, but was just joking. Wanting his old sword back badly, he discards the Akabanetou, which cause everyone else to make a grab for it. Preoccupied with either their respective or other opponents, it flies and stick to the wooden pole next to Kenichi. Sakaki tells him to take it and run, which he does, but the armor guy is right behind him and attacks, causing Kenichi to hand precariously on the edge of the roof. Shigure manages to convince Kagerou to help her: if he protects Kenichi and the sword along with promising to never kill anyone again, she’ll give him one of her father’s swords. Kagerou’s eyes light up with a new sense of determination.

Though not much happened to change the story, it was still a pretty fun and funny chapter. First and foremost, hurrah boobies! If you didn’t see, then you need your eyes checked. Kagerou’s antics with Shigure were pretty funny. Looks like she knows just how to treat him, more so than Kushinada. Speaking of, she hasn’t actually been involved with facing Sakaki. She and Chikage are merely just observing right now. Looking forward to next week. Decent chapter.

ONE PIECE (chapter 564)

No chapter this week. One Piece is on break.

NARUTO (chapter 471) Tailed Beast, Version 2

Kisame’s sword transforms, with the top of the sword opening with a mouth and tongue. Killer Bee goes into his tailed beast mode, with seven chakra tails. He attacks Kisame, but it’s parried, and Kisame’s sword eats six chakra tails. With the attack failing, Killer Bee decides to use the next version. Meanwhile, Mizukage and Choujuro find traces of where Ao has been, and continue to track him. Ao is still trapped in the wood doll from Fuu’s attack, and Fuu is unable to get Ao’s Byakugan eye thanks to a seal placed on it. Instead, Fuu ties a sickle to a branch, and plans to lunge Ao’s body to it, severing his head. He hopes to switch out just in the nick of time so as to not kill himself, too. Ao adds pressure to his jump, telling him to not make a mistake: too late, then they’re both dead; too early, and Ao will save himself. Back at the battle, Killer Bee has an internal dialogue with the 8-Tailed Beast, who wants to be let out and go wild against Kisame. But Bee wants to keep him in check for the moment, because he’s supposed to stay hidden, and Sabu and Ponta could get hurt. Instead, he decides to use Version 2. He still has 7 tails, but he’s not completely black, a fusion of the tailed beast with his human form. He goes in for a lariat attack that Kisame tries to block and absorb, but he can’t absorb it all. Bee connects and sends Kisame flying, but he’s reverted back to his previous form with chakra tails. However, Kisame uses the absorbed chakra from his sword to regenerate his wounds. He uses a water technique to engulf both Bee and Sabu. Sabu tells Bee to take Kisame’s sword, since it is the source of his strength. Unfortunately, Kisame has merged with his sword, turning into a shark/reptile hybrid.

Alright, the fight does continue, for the most part anyway. Kisame’s sword appears to have its own sentience, or at least some sort of chakra dependency. Kisame is definitely one of the stronger villans of the series. We’ll probably find out what happens to Ao and Fuu next week, at least, hopefully. That storyline just took an interesting turn. So far, the fight’s going okay, although I’m still disturbed by the way his sword is about alive. Decent chapter.

BLEACH (chapter 382) The United Front – Discordeque Mix

Ichigo leads the way, with Unohana following; but Ichigo’s reiatsu path deteriorates pretty quickly. She suggests that she leads the way instead. Her path is clean and precise. Ichigo comments how he could do better if he had captain class reiatsu, but she says that their reiatsus aren’t that different. However, Ichigo says that his isn’t at full strength yet, since only his right sleeve has been restored. Usually his whole top is whole, when his reiatsu is at full strength. Realizing this, Unohana tells Ichigo to lead the way instead, while she will continue to heal him. Meanwhile, Kenpachi has cut up more of Yammy, who’s now out cold. Bored with him, he calls Byakuya, telling him to finish him off. Byakuya doesn’t want to clean up Kenpachi’s mess, and the two argue who should actually finish him off. Yammy ends up getting back up, and fires a Cero. Kenpachi decides to finish him off. Byakuya complains that he should’ve done so much earlier, and is surprised that it’s taking this long. Their bickering causes them to finally face each other in a match, but Yammy is still in the way. They both attack him at full force, so they can continue their duel.

So I guess just like with Dragonball Z, Ichigo gets stronger each time he’s nearly faced death. So now he’s supposedly one of the strongest. I guess he couldn’t actually face Yammy back then because he wasn’t at full strength. Kenpachi and Byakuya arguing was kind of funny. I guess we’re just at an interim point until Ichigo gets healed and they arrive back at Karakura Town. Decent chapter.

HAJIME NO IPPO (chapter 873) Uncanny Wildness

Woli leaps to Ippo’s right, right into the turnbuckle just as Ippo planned. He turns to face him and is about to throw a punch, but suddenly, Woli is no longer where Ippo expected him to be! Like he just vanished! Facing his own, empty corner, Kamogawa has to point out that Woli’s behind him. But it’s too late, as Ippo takes two shots to the head. He can’t help but wonder how Woli managed to change direction in mid-air. It’s impossible. Ippo is completely surprised. Kimura is worried that Ippo is going to panic and loose his cool. The others try to figure out what exactly Woli did, but Takamura barely caught a glimpse of what it was, saying that the audience behind Woli knows exactly what’s going on. Ippo composes himself, and charges again, trying to figure out what just happened. He forces him to jump to the corner again, but this time he keeps a closer watch. To his surprise, Woli seems to have stopped in mid-air, and is just floating. Because of his perspective, he can’t see Woli holding himself up with just one hand on the top rope of the ring. Woli uses the ropes to push off and get behind Ippo, who’s still confused as to what just happened. Now mentally shaken, will Ippo regain his composure before the end of the round?

Takamura’s foresight comes through. Never expected Woli to grab the ropes like that, but in hindsight, it makes perfect sense. I don’t know too many of the rules of boxing, but I’m fairly certain that what he’s doing isn’t illegal. With Ippo shaken up, Woli has him right where he wants him. Man, next week can’t come soon enough. Hype for this fight definitely made it worth it. Also, it could just be because there’s a Pacquiao fight coming up as well. Good chapter.

FAIRY TAIL (chapter 159)The Flame of Rebuke

Natsu is able to get up after getting hit by Gerard’s surprise attack. Zero suggests that Gerard’s memories have returned, which he says they have. Natsu rushes at him, but gets hit by another flame attack. He tells Gerard that fire won’t work on him, which Gerard states he knows. He knows that fire can amplify fire dragon slayer magic. Zero questions his “memories,” which Gerard replies that he only remembers Natsu being a ray of hope, and that everything before today he doesn’t remember. Through Erza, he knows he’s done some horrible things, but now he’s here to help. Natsu still hasn’t forgiven what Gerard has done to make Erza cry, but Zero interrupts with another attack. Gerard manages to push Natsu away and take the attack head on. After, he falls to the ground, exhausted. Just before collapsing, he manages to convince Natsu to trust him, and take his golden flame, the Flame of Rebuke. At the 6th Lachryma chamber, Wendy prepares herself to destroy the crystal. Moments before, Gerard asks Wendy to try to heal Natsu, but Charle disagrees, saying that she’s used up enough of her healing power already. Instead, Gerard will go to heal Natsu, leaving the responsibility of the crystal destruction to Wendy. He convinces her that there is destructive dragon slayer magic within her, to trust in her own strength to protect her guild. Natsu finally eats the golden fire, just before Gerard collapses. He gets the first attack on Zero, who’s surprised at his new speed increase. Firing another Dark Capriccio, Natsu easily swats it away this time. Zero notices scales starting to appear on Natsu’s face, and that he’s being surrounded by light, which he recognizes as “Dragon Force.”

So he didn’t get all of his memories back, and was able to team up with Natsu for a short while. Chapter was extra long thanks to the color pages and the slight recap of what’s happened thus far. Artwork has been improving gradually, and I’ve only noticed it just now. While the story hasn’t always been great, this week’s writing and pacing was done very well. Not sure if Gerard will stay in his “good guy” mode, but so far it’s working out okay. Wondering if Natsu will defeat Zero in two or three chapters from now. Also, it’s kind of funny that Natsu gets a temporary power-up that’s highly reasonable in shonen logic. After this, he’ll still most likely stay weaker than Erza. Good chapter.

HISTORY’S STRONGEST DISCIPLE KENICHI (chapter 360)The Struggle for the Excellent Swords

Kagerou recognizes Kenichi as Shigure’s disciple. Instead of extracting revenge, he begs Kenichi to ask Shigure to give him his sword back. Kushinada says he can find a better sword inside; but Kagerou doesn’t want to go, until he sees Shigure fighting on the balcony. He carries Kenichi with him, to go ask Shigure for his sword back. Inside the castle, the armored person breaks the glass case to claim the sword they were after. The katana wielder prevents Sakaki from stopping the armored one. He says that a karate master technically needs three times the ranks of a katana master in order to be equal, and being an 8th rank master, he thinks that Sakaki is a 24th rank. However, Sakaki deflects his blade with his hand and almost hits him with a counter attack, stating he has a 100th rank. Kagerou comes up to the room with Kenichi, and the armored guy gives Kagerou the recently stolen sword. And with Kushinada appearing, must Sakaki fight four members of Yami at the same time?

With four Yami members at once, I’m not exactly sure what Sakaki will be able to do. Don’t know how much help Kenichi will be, and there aren’t really any disciples for him to fight except for Chikage, and they aren’t going to fight anytime soon. Perhaps one of the other Ryouzanpaku masters will be able to come by to help? Fighting is still pretty interesting. And hopefully Shigure will be able to help out a little more than just attacking one of them. Decent chapter.

So close to getting this out on Sunday.  Missed it by 20 minutes, hahaha.  So PMX (Pacific Media Expo) was this past weekend.  I didn’t go.  I went last year, and it was only okay, but didn’t feel worth the price of admission to me.  If any of you went, feel free to let me know if it’s improved in any way.  What did you like, and what did you dislike.  What can be improved, and what should stay the same.  ALA (Anime Los Angeles) is the next convention I’m heading to, and it’s the second weekend of January.  Need to plan a costume idea.  Hope you guys have had a great weekend!  And in other news, (which you’ll see below) One Piece is on break next week.  I know that you can’t rush quality, and each time the author has taken a break, the chapters are jam-packed of awesome.  But I want to have my cake and eat it, too.  Well, enjoy!

ONE PIECE (chapter 563) One Heart, One Man

The fighting nearly stops, as everyone witnesses Whitebeard being stabbed. Marco rushes and pins Squad before he does any more damage. Squad manages to escape Marco’s clutches, and confronts Whitebeard about what he’s heard from the Marines. Whitebeard, his crew, and Ace will all be spared, as long as the Marines can annihilate the rest of the New World pirates. Before today, Squad didn’t know that Ace was Roger’s son. He was all alone when Whitebeard found him, because Roger killed his friends and crew. He calls out Whitebeard’s deal and betrayal, noticing that the Pacifistas aren’t attack any of Whitebeard’s crew, just his allied pirates. Since they are surrounded by the walls of ice, no one can escape this massacre of a war. Squad’s words cast doubt upon the rest of Whitebeard’s allies. Even the onlookers from Saobody Island are thinking that Whitebeard sold out his allies. Sengoku orders Aokiji to take out the remaining camera, and he does so by freezine Buggy and his criminal cohorts. Angry, Crocodile yells at Whitebeard, proclaiming he is weaker than when he defeated him. Marco knows that Whitebeard’s health is getting worse, that he should’ve been able to dodge Squad’s sneak attack. It’s revealed that Akainu was the one who persuaded Squad to betray Whitebeard. He then tells squad that though he hates Roger, children shouldn’t be accountable for the sins of their father. Realizing that it was planned all along by Sengoku, Whitebeard crushes the ice walls with his quake powers, and telling his allies that they can choose what they want to believe. Believe Squad’s story and escape, or stay with Whitebeard to fight to the death. Sengoku then orders the remaining marines to prepare themselves, as Whitebeard himself jumps down from his ship to pesonally lead the attack.

So Squad really was a turncoat for the Marines, but only because he believed their lies. This little break in the action has made for a good change of pace. It was an interesting story aspect, because I also imagined that someone would betray Whitebeard to either take his place as an Emperor or to save himself and crew from the wrath of the Marines. Great escalation of pace at the end, too, now that Whitebeard officially joins the war. It’s such a shame though, becaue One Piece will be taking a break next week. Too much detail and story planning. Argh! Good chapter.

NARUTO (chapter 470) Killerbee vs Kisame

Sakura tries to convince Naruto that her feelings are genuine, but he’s still convinced that she’s not being completely honest with him and herself. Naruto begins to explain why he thinks Sasuke is still set on his revenge by joining Akatsuki after defeating his brother, but he remembers that he, Kakashi, and Yamato promised to keep what Madara told them a secret. Not able to change his mind, Sakura and the other Konoha ninjas leave. However, they aren’t planning to go back to their village. Instead, Sakura wants to find Sasuke herself. Meanwhile, the rest of the Kages make their way back to their respective villages, while others try to find Kakashi to let him know of their decision. Finally, though the Killerbee and Kisame fight has started, they haven’t fought each other yet. Kisame makes short work of Ponta, and Sabu takes offense that he called his pet raccoon a bear. He acts as a distraction, wielding his giant axe. Giving him an opening, Killerbee throws a lightning charged pencil at Kisame, who barely dodges it. Though Kisame is surrounded, he’s able to throw off Sabu and only barely get hurt by Killerbee’s attack, much to Killerbee and Sabu’s surprise. He then activates his 8-tailed beast, and goes in for a headbutt. However, their heads connect, with no real damage done to either. Sabu finally notices that Kisame’s sword is draining Killerbee’s chakra. Falling back to prepare for their next attacks, Kisame removes his swords bandages, revealing it to have a different shape than before.

You know, it’s been so long since we’ve seen Kisame in action that I completely forgot that his sword “eats” chakra. It explains why they said that Kisame is as strong as a Tailed-beast host. At long last, this fight is starting, and so far, it looks like it should be a good one. Can’t really tell who should have the advantage (at the moment, it’s Kisame and his sword). This half makes the chapter good. The beginning half with Sakura, not so much. We all get the who-likes-who part of this story, and some times, it’s needed or poignant. Most of the time, it feels shoe-horned and breaks up the pacing. Like these last two chapters. But the good outweighs the bad by a lot, and hopefully, the fight will still continue next week. With only a few interruptions for the other stories. Good chapter.

BLEACH (chapter 381) Words Just Don’t Like You

With the Garganta open, Mayuri warns Ichigo that he can’t guide him back to Karakura Town, and that one misstep could possibly trap him between earth and Hueco Mundo. Ichigo tells Mayuri that him explaining everything to him like this is similar to when Uruhara told them how to get to Hueco Mundo earlier. He also wonders if Mayuri studied under Uruhara, being the second head of R&D, and that both of them are actually pretty similar. Ichigo and Unohana head back to earth, but his words infuriate Mayuri. He was thinking about locking them in Garganta, but now he wants to instill great fear in Ichigo once this war is over. Traveling back, Unohana asks what Ichigo’s experience was like when he first faced Aizen. He says he was so overwhelmed, that Aizen didn’t even have to use his sword against him. Unohana says that it’s good news. Meanwhile, Yammy and Kenpachi continue to duke it out, but after a series of punches, Kenpachi cuts off some of Yammy’s fingers. Kenpachi appears on his arm, runs up it, and goes for a blow to the head. Byakuya asks Mayuri why he’s staying in Hueco Mundo. Mayuri says there are more interesting things here, such as the corpses. And with Garganta open, he can head to earth anytime he likes. Unohana explains to Ichigo that for Aizen to use his sword’s power on an oppenent, one must see it’s first release, which Ichigo has not. All the former captains, Espada, and even Vizards have seen it. Ichigo is the only hope of defeating Aizen. If he does see the sword’s release, Ichigo’s advantage is over. Mayuri is frustrated at Byakuya’s silent responses to his answers, so Byakuya says that his answers hinted that Ichigo would end the war. That Mayuri believes in Ichigo’s abilities.

Surprisingly, there was a lot of dialogue in this week’s chapter. Same can be said for last week as well. And the story aspect of this chapter wasn’t bad at all. I wasn’t expecting the plot device of the unknown is your biggest strength while knowledge is weakness. I know I could’ve worded that a lot simpler, so whatever. I was also amused that Kenpachi pulled off taking down the giant Yammy Shadow of the Colossus style. Orihime still isn’t with them. Decent chapter.

HAJIME NO IPPO (chapter 872) Predicted Corner

Ippo continues to press forward, hoping to pin Woli into the corner. Just as Woli hits it, the bell signals the end of the round. Itagaki thinks that Ippo has this match won, once he gets Woli into the corner. Miguel asks if Woli knows what Ippo’s trying to do, but he says that he needs to study him more. While the other assistants what the coach to tell him, Miguel instead is curious to see how Woli will handle it when it happens. In the other corner, Ippo says he’s able to predict where Woli will end up. Each punch he’s thrown has forced Woli to jump back and to his right (Woli’s left). As the third round begins, the match continues right where it left of, with Ippo giving chase and putting on the pressure still. He presses him towards the ropes, but Woli avoids it. However, Takamura notices that Ippo was directing him to the next corner instead. Throwing a punch he knows won’t land, Ippo is able to get Woli to jump into the corner. Now that Ippo has him where he wants him, what will Woli do to counter?

Ippo strategy: success! Now what will happen next? It’s kind of relieving to see Takamura so unsure about Ippo’s situation. Itagaki thinks he’s got it in the bag, but his uncertainty means we’re in for a not-so-one-sided match. Woli is putting up a great fight, especially being a rookie. What new or old technique will he show next week? Can’t wait. Good chapter.

FAIRY TAIL (chapter 158)Door of Memories

Natsu, Gray, and Lucy are able to get up in response to their teammates pleas. Not lasting long, Hibiki tells everyone that they must pick a number between 1 and 6, to determine which lachryma chamber to attack. Natsu picks 1. Everyone else picks their number. Natsu is glad that Erza’s safe, but he hears a familiar voice choosing 6 (Gerard’s), but he doesn’t know who exactly it is. Finally losing their mental connection, the team decides to head into their positions. At the No. 1 Lachryma Chamber, Natsu finds Zero there waiting for him. Meanwhile, Erza suspects that Zero is at location 1 as well. She doesn’t think he needs any help though, trusting in Natsu’s abilities. But Gerard’s recalls the name Natsu, hinting at his memories returning. For the battle, Natsu struggles to attack Zero, dodging most of his attacks. Zero goes on the offensive with his Dark Capriccio, but unlike Brain, he’s able to control its direction after he fires it, making it curve and burrow underground. Not able to dodge, Natsu decides to meet it head on, and stop it with his own strength, using his fist. Before he can recover, he’s attacked by Gerard.

So it looks like Gerard has all his memories back. Now, will he continue attacking Natsu, or is he instead just getting a little bit of revenge before focusing his attack on Brain? And I’m not sure if it’s all of Gerard’s memories or just some of them. Ichiya is still tied up to that branch. And it’s still hilarious. We’ll have to see what happens to Natsu next week, whether he’s double-teamed or gets help. Finally, the Fairy Tail Extra chapter was pretty cute, even for an all Lucy story. Hope you were able to read it. Decent chapter.

HISTORY’S STRONGEST DISCIPLE KENICHI (chapter 359)Red Feather Sword

Kenichi hides outside a building and acts as a lookout for Sakaki and Shigure, as they guard swords to prevent a potential Yami attack. Talking on the phone with Akisame, it turns out that he’s stationed other Ryouzanpaku members at various locations to protect other potential sword targets for Yami. So far, just two blades have been stolen. Though, Kenichi wonders why he’s with two of his masters. Sakaki is also worried about Kenichi as well, and Shigure makes of him, relating him to be like a mother hen. Suddenly, Kenichi calls Sakaki on a cell phone, but not knowing how to answer it, he crushes it in his hand and calls out to Kenichi outside. He responds by saying that he saw some people enter the castle. Sakaki is nearly ambushed but is able to dodge, and Shigure is fighting against the other one. There are actually three members of the weapon division: a hooded man with a katana, a hatted woman wielding two kukris, and an axe-wielder in a suit of armor. Not knowing what to do, Kenichi decides to call Akisame, but his phone is taken away by Kagerou, who’s there with Kushinada and Chikage. The ladies walk right past him, with Chikage having her Yomi eyes, if you will. Kagerou finally remembers Kenichi as being Shigure’s disciple.

All right, more multi-master team-ups, and indeed, Shigure is involved in this match. The three weapon users have some pretty nice designs. Not sure how I feel about the armored person yet, but he definitely looks like a badass. Seriously, I wouldn’t mess with a guy wearing a suit of armor. The interactions among Sakaki, Shigure, and Kenichi leading up to the fight were hilarious. It’s good to know that the auther still has a good grasp of comedy. Looking forward to the continuation of the fights. Good chapter.
